Environment Canada has confirmed that a tornado touched down Monday night in a rural area east of Winnipeg. The twister hit near Oakbank shortly before 9 p.m. CT. Environment Canada said it will probably not send a damage team out Tuesday because only downed trees were reported as a result of the twister. Area resident Judy Dunn said hail was coming down sideways, and the wind tore lots of branches from her willow trees, driving some of them into the ground. "[The sky] darkened up as it usually does — we've had a lot of that weather this year," Dunn said. "The only difference is when that sky starts to turn kinda green, you know it's not a good thing," The weather agency also said storms through southern Manitoba brought hail the size of golf balls to areas around La Salle, Starbuck and Garson. Humidex warnings in place for much of the province on Monday were dropped at night as temperatures fell.
