Description:

Rhode Island public health officials say six cases of chickenpox have been reported in four communities this month. The state Health Department said Thursday that three cases have been reported in Warwick. Cranston, North Providence and Woonsocket each have one case. Health officials say they notified the families of children who may have been exposed to chickenpox at Totally Kids Child Care, Oakland Beach Elementary School and Drum Rock Elementary School in Warwick. Notifications also went out to Garden City Elementary School in Cranston, McGuire Elementary School in North Providence and YWCA Northern RI in Woonsocket. State Director of Health Dr. Michael Fine says vaccination is the best prevention against chickenpox. The vaccination is recommended for children ages 12 to 15 months and again before kindergarten.
